What the generator gives you
Four tones, three versions each
Formal, classic, modern or fun, each written three different ways so you can pick the one that sounds like you.
Hosted by your parents, or by you
Traditional “request the honour of your presence” wording with both families’ names, or you and your partner inviting in your own voice.
The practical lines
RSVP deadline, adults-only and dress code wording, phrased in the same tone as the rest.
A message for the link
The short note you send with your online invitation. Sending it on WhatsApp.
Choosing the right tone for your wording
Your wedding sets the tone more than anything else. For a church wedding or a black-tie day, formal wording in the third person is still the natural choice. Traditionally, “request the honour of your presence” is used for a religious ceremony and “request the pleasure of your company” for a civil one, and formal wording is where parents’ names sit most comfortably.
Classic keeps the elegance but sounds warmer. Modern is short and direct, ideal for registry offices, barns and gardens. Fun works when humour is genuinely part of who you are as a couple, with one rule: the joke goes before or after the details, never instead of them.
What every wedding invitation must include
On a digital invitation, the beautiful wording goes at the top and the practical details live in their own sections: order of the day, maps, transport. If you haven’t planned the day yet, our wedding day timeline generator builds one you can paste straight in.
- Who: both names, clear and prominent.
- When: the day of the week, full date and time. The generator writes the date out in full to avoid any doubt.
- Where: the venue and town, and both venues if the ceremony and reception are in different places.
- How to reply: the RSVP deadline and where to respond.
- Extras: dress code, children, transport or accommodation, only if they apply.

Frequently asked questions
Should our parents’ names go on the wedding invitation?
Traditionally the hosts are named, so if your parents are hosting, formal wording opens with their names. Today it is just as correct for the couple to invite in their own names, or to write “Together with their families” before your names.
When should the RSVP deadline be?
Most couples ask for replies four to six weeks before the wedding, which is usually when the caterer needs final numbers. The generator suggests six weeks by default; adjust it to what your suppliers need.
How do we word an adults-only wedding politely?
Keep it to one kind sentence in the same tone as the rest, without long justifications. Tick “Adults-only celebration” and the generator adds a line phrased for the tone you chose.
What should the message with our invitation link say?
A greeting, the date and venue in one line, the link and the RSVP deadline. Keep it short: the message is the front door, the invitation is the house. The generator gives you one for each tone.
Can we use this wording on printed invitations?
Yes. The wording is yours to use on paper or online. If you print cards, you can add a QR code that takes guests to your online invitation and its RSVP form.
